Cherry Limeade, Lemonade, & Watermelon
I have run 6 marathons.  For each one I have trained during the winter and raced in the spring.  The winter training has started to wear me down.  Slogging through snow, running 16 milers inside on the treadmill and donning multiple layers of clothes (including a freakin' neck warmer) is just starting to get old.
This past winter in Franconia, NH.  
It was 4 degrees out.
After I finished my most recent marathon this past March, I texted my friend and fellow coach, A. Ladd, and told him to remind me not to do another spring marathon for a long, long time.  His response, sure...and I'll remind you about this request in August when it's 90 degrees outside with 100% humidity and you are training for your fall marathon.  Because that's going to feel so much better.  Solid point (darn it).  Like being pregnant, there is really no good time to run a marathon.  You train for 3-4 months and realistically you are never going to get the same weather conditions for the day of the race that you have had throughout all of your training.  It is what it is.  So, summer, be damned, this year I'm going to go for it.  I am going to start training in July for an October marathon.  Wait...what?  Thankfully, I have NUUN as my trusty hydration partner.
 Last June at a race in Boston.  It was hot
 as you know what but I was fully hydrated!
It is tasty, refreshing, sweet (but not too sweet) and in the heat of the summer, it quenches my thirst without leaving a sticky film in my mouth the way most other sports drinks do.  It's 100% natural, which is really the way anything we ingest should be.  It's the only thing I drink before, after and during a run.  I keep it in my car, in my purse, in my running bag, in get the point.  So dukes up, August.  I've got NUUN behind me.  What've you got?
One last note: regardless of whether or not you are a runner, it is critical to stay hydrated.  In addition to supporting you when you are active, hydration helps to boost your concentration and focus, two things I need daily; especially when I am roaming the aisles of Trader Joe'  Bottom line, you need to drink fluids and with summer around the corner, you should probably heavy up!
